RetURN.org ID labels are made from Metalphoto anodized aluminum, which its manufacturer expects to remain legible for 100 years or more indoors, and are designed for common urn materials. Each label carries its own unique human-readable ID and QR code.

Who owns and maintains the ID?
RetURN.org issues each identifier and hosts the profile connected to it. That means the ID is not dependent on the funeral home, cemetery, retailer, manufacturer, or other organization that originally provided it.
What does the family pay?
A family pays $19.99 to activate an ID already on an urn. If they need an ID mailed directly to them, the price is $29.99 with activation included. There is no subscription or renewal.
Can we see what a family enters?
No. Your portal can show that an ID has been activated and when. It does not show the wishes or other private information stored on the family’s profile.
Can several locations participate?
Yes. We support organizations with multiple locations so activity and inventory can be managed appropriately.
Can we put our branding on the ID?
The physical ID uses RetURN.org branding because it needs to remain useful even if the original provider is no longer operating years from now. Your organization is identified on the profile as the provider associated with the ID.
Do we need to integrate with anything?
No. Organizations can use the RetURN.org portal without connecting another system.
How is RetURN.org sustainable if industry participation is free or low-cost?
Families pay to activate RetURN.org IDs. That revenue funds the long-term operation and maintenance of RetURN.org, including the database that keeps IDs working over time.
We also use a portion of revenue to support industry scholarships, organizations, and other programs and initiatives of Buried in Work Charitable.
The model is designed so RetURN.org can remain sustainable without adding another subscription or recurring fee for funeral homes, cemeteries, crematories, manufacturers, and other participating organizations.
